- Pasty James Gives You All With Music In 1 On 1 Interview
DJ Duce interviews recording artist Pasty James on his influence and motivation in music. DJ Duce: Share some insight on how the streets reflected in your music and what was one experience that changed you? Pasty James: I grew up seeing a lot as a kid. I grew with my cousins who were gang banging, plus my daddy and grandfather sold drugs but I got involved at a young age trying to get in the streets. it just taught me to struggle hard and I always wanted more. DJ Duce: You were born in Paducah, KY but were back and forth between Missouri and Illinois. How did this constant change of states & environment impact your music? Did you find it harder or easier? Pasty James: I don't know what it was like to be in Kentucky, but in and out of Missouri and Illinois only made me feel like the country mouse and city mouse. I got both sides in me but I also have different personalities. DJ Duce: Your most recent single "Starvin" shed some light on the overall concept of that track? Pasty James: It’s just how I felt at the time. I was going through something at the time when I dropped that song. I had a baby on the way. DJ Duce: What is one piece of music advice you could give an upcoming artist that you may have experienced? Pasty James: Don’t stop doing you, go hard! DJ Duce: In 5 years, where do you want to be in music? Where do you see your music career in 5 years? Pasty James: Signed to a major label. Doing good, making videos and in a real studio. - Death Row Records To Change Hands Again Following $385M Cash Deal
Hasbro Toy Company, the same entity responsible for Mr. Potato Head and Cabbage Patch Kids, acquired Death Row Records in 2019 when the company bought Entertainment One (eOne). Now, the iconic rap label is reportedly trading hands again. According to Deadline, Hasbro announced on Monday (April 26), it’s selling eOne to Blackstone for $385 million in cash. Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner said, “This transaction will ensure that eOne Music is well positioned to unlock great opportunities for its many talented artists and partners, as Hasbro continues to focus on the core strategic elements of … play and entertainment.” Hasbro, who’s expected to close the deal in the second or third quarter of 2021, intends to use its net proceeds from the sale to pay down down debt and other general corporate purposes. Hasbro Toy Company and Entertainment One officially closed their deal in December 2019 following a $3.8 billion cash transaction. eOne has owned Death Row’s catalog for several years. In 2013, the company spent roughly $280 million to buy it, seven years after the imprint declared bankruptcy. Death Row Records launched its first-ever online merch store last month in honor of its 30th anniversary. In addition to clothing and music, Death Row fans will be able to cop non-fungible tokens (NFTs) beginning with “Series 1: Nobody Does It Better,” named after the classic Nate Dogg track. The song also serves as the audio bed for the limited edition NFTs in the first series. The label also announced the cassette re-release of four classic Death Row titles: Dr. Dre’s 1992 masterpiece The Chronic, Snoop Dogg’s 1993 solo debut Doggystyle, 2Pac’s All Eyez On Me and Makaveli’s (2Pac) The Don Killuminati (7 Day Theory). Each release marks the first time they’ve been reissued on cassette since the 1990s. Find more information here. Full article at HipHopDX
